Shadow of the Demon Lord Freeport Companion

Created by Robert J Schwalb

We're bringing Freeport: The City of Adventure to the Shadow of the Demon Lord RPG!

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Download Codes and Vouchers
about 7 years ago – Wed, Apr 19, 2017 at 04:17:15 PM

In the last update, I said these things had gone out. To be clear, the only codes that went out were for products that I have already released: A Dozen Poisoned Pages, Terrible Beauty, and so on. None of the Freeport books nor stretch goal items have shipped as they are still in production. I apologize for any confusion I might have created.

Thanks!

Here's where things stand:

All the download links and print vouchers have gone out. My friends at Campaign Coins shipped out tokens. The Freeport Coins will come a bit later as they are in production. Copies of the core book have all gone out. So, we're kicking butt on that front.

Freeport Companion

Editing continues. We overhauled the ship combat rules to make them more streamlined and have plowed through all of the stat-boxes. Kim's now working on the adventure, tightening screws to make sure everything works. After that, he'll do another pass through the whole thing to catch bugs and we're moving on to layout. I have a chunk of the art assets, but I expect the rest to land by the end of May. So, we should be on target to get the PDFs and books out early.

Death in Freeport

Cecil Howe is hard at work wrapping up the maps for this book. I'm hoping to get them this week. Then, we'll finalize layout and get this PDF out. I will not be shipping physical copies until all three adventures are done, but the PDFs will come as soon as they're ready.

Terror in Freeport

This beast is still in editing. Ivan Dixon is handling art duties for this book and I approved all the sketches yesterday. Maps are in production as well. Oh. And here's the sexy cover by Mirco Paganessi!

Madness in Freeport

I wrapped the conversion and handed the book over to Jay for editing. Jack Kaiser is handling art duties for this one and Cecil Howe has the maps. We should be ready to get this beast out in a few weeks.

Beyond the World's Edge

I've started writing, but we're at about 5% complete. I've decided to break this book up into regions. Chapter 1 covers the east, 2 covers the north, and 3 covers the west. Chapter 4 is filled with weird places that might or might not exist in the world. Chapter 5 provides a bird's eye view of the birthplace of the Edene. And Chapter 6 presents a selection of new critters. Now that I've wrapped Madness, I'm hammering away at this one. More on this next time.

Tales, DLC2

For Tales, I'm thinking about the adventures, coming up with a list of interesting and nasty situations and engaging plots. This book is the next I'll tackle after World's Edge.

DLC2 is the last. Still thinking about what I want to do with the rest of the book after the group themes. Rest assured, I have some ideas already, but I expect more to come.

Thanks for reading and thanks for your continued support!

Progress

A super quick update today. BackerKit invites went out and 85% of you fine folks have already filled out your surveys. I'm going to give it until we hit about 95% and then I'll lockdown and charge cards. At that point, I'll fulfill all the rewards I can (PDFs, print add-ons, copies of Shadow, tokens, and so on). So let's knock out those surveys so we can get things rolling!

Freeport Companion

Kim Mohan is hard at work scrubbing the text. I'd say we're about 50% through the process.

On the art front, Jack Kaiser has turned over all his pieces and Kim Van Deun is close. Artists have until the end of May to turn over their work and then the entire thing moves into layout.

Here are work in progress bits from Kim. I think they look awesome.

Death in Freeport

Conversion is wrapped and edited. We have about half the art in plus the cover. I expect remaining pieces to show up around the end of May. Here's the cover.

Terror in Freeport

Conversion is done and it's in Jay Spight's hands for proofing and editing. Art and map orders are out. I also expect assets to roll in by the end of May.

Madness in Freeport

Conversion is about 20% wrapped. I hope to have it pulled together by the end of next week.

Beyond the World's Edge

I'm starting the storyboard and outline for this today. I fully intend to reveal the homeland of the Edene peoples in this book, so you'll see some or all of a new continent as part of this supplement.

Tales, DLC2

Planning stages for both of these.

Future

In addition to all these fun projects, we're waiting on art assets for Born to Kill (a new Victims of the Demon Lord that covers orcs) and Ghastly Gourmands (a new monstrous pages that covers ogres). These should be along in a couple of weeks. I'm also hammering away at Against the Witch-King, the Shadow of the Demon Lord Player's Guide, and Occult Philosophy. Stay tuned for more details about these sexy new books.

BackerKit Surveys!
about 7 years ago – Fri, Mar 31, 2017 at 04:08:05 PM

Thank you for making our project a reality! A few things need to happen before we can kick off production and fulfillment.

Here's a quick rundown:

First, I'm still waiting for Kickstarter to transfer over the funds. I expect this to happen in a few more days.

Second, I have to find out some info about you to fulfill your rewards. I'll be sending out a BackerKit survey to collect this information. This survey should arrive early next week, so keep an eye out for it. You don't need to create a BackerKit account to answer your survey. The invitation email will contain a link to your personal survey. It is important to submit your responses as quickly as you can since we need this information to process your rewards.

If you need to change your survey responses, add or remove add-ons, or update your shipping information, you can click on the link in your survey email again or request your survey link under "Lost your survey?" on our BackerKit project page. (This page will only start working after I send the surveys out.)

If you prefer, you can just message me and give me your information, but answering your survey will help me get your rewards out to you quicker. BackerKit helps me save lots of time by streamlining the survey process, automating data organization, and providing us with pledge management software to make it easy to process your pledge reward shipments.

If you used Facebook to log into your Kickstarter account, the BackerKit survey link will be sent to the email you used for your Facebook account. If you have another email address that you'd prefer to use, please message me.

Again, thanks for all your support!

The Aristocrats!
about 7 years ago – Sat, Mar 18, 2017 at 08:57:31 PM

Eighteen days ago, I launched this campaign with no idea how it would be received or even if it would fund. You guys proved I was worried over nothing! We funded super fast and now, thanks to your generous support, we're also releasing the Freeport trilogy, Beyond the World's Edge, Tales of the Pirate Isles, and the much anticipated Demon Lord's Companion 2. Now that the campaign is done and over with, I'll be taking the next steps to get the product into your hands. But first? Beer and sleep and Gary Con and a bit more sleep.

When I get back from Wisconsin, I'll put the finishing touches on the BackerKit page and get it approved. Once funds transfer to my account, I'll start the process of delivering add-ons, both in PDF and in print. Kim Mohan is about a 1/3 of the way through the Companion already, Death in Freeport is queued up for layout, and I'm 80% through Terror in Freeport. The plan is to knock out Madness next, followed by Beyond, Tales, and, finally, the DLC2. As I make my way through these products, I'll share art that comes in, the occasional excerpt, and mad musings after peering too closely at the Yellow Sign.

I expect to get emails out from Backerkit in a few weeks. At that time, you’ll be able to assign pledge dollars to your rewards plug in your addresses and all the other fun stuff to ensure everything goes just right.

Again, thank you for backing this project and for helping to bring out the Shadow of the Demon Lord Freeport Companion. I know you're going to love it.
